A great way to spend time with your kids when you're stuck inside is to read books together. If you have kids around the ages of four to thirteen or so, combining the book reading with another activity can make the experience all the more enjoyable.

3 book themed activities to do with your children include the following:

  1. Have a book reading picnic—You can spread a blanket out on the floor and bring a basket full of books, some snacks and drinks and enjoy reading together.

  2. Combine a book with dinner—Choose a picture book and read it all before dinner, or choose a chapter book and read it a chapter at a time. Talk with your kids about any food items that show up in the story and then prepare them for dinner! Discuss the book or chapter over dinner and have each person say their favorite part.

  3. Combine a book with a movie—Choose a book that’s been made into a movie such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlotte’s Web, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to name three excellent possibilities. You can read the book together and then watch the movie (with popcorn!) and discuss how they compare.
